What you are about to see is a wholly computer generated animation.
Emily (the girl in the video below) is Not Real!
Emily was produced using a new modelling technology that enables the most minute details of a facial expression to be captured and recreated.
She is considered to be one of the first animations to have overleapt a long-standing barrier known as ‘uncanny valley’ - which refers to the perception that animation looks less realistic as it approaches human likeness.
‘Emily’ will set a new precedent for photo-realistic characters in video games and films, says her creator, Image Metrics

Got to see it in a practical app first! Looks promising, but there have been promising technologies before that didn’t quite deliver.
kabonfootprint | Amber on Mon, 25th Aug 2008 9:48 am
No way! it’s amazing if she is an photo-realistic character. She looks so real! Image Metrics are indeed setting up new standards in gaming industry.
Thanks for sharing this video.

I think its fake, when the real Emily shows up at the end no changes at all? not even the hair lighting? nothing is that perfect!!
thx for the share

This is BIG…
Just imagine all the intellegence work that can be done using this technology!!! Want to see your leader giving you the order to surrender on the local news…
jaraad on Mon, 25th Aug 2008 5:33 pm
It is too real to be believed. I have doubt that it is 100% animation. Otherwise, this is HUGE really HUGE thing. It is like a cheap human cloning.
Jesse on Mon, 25th Aug 2008 5:38 pm
was the whole video animated? or just the end
Sari S. Al-Hiari on Mon, 25th Aug 2008 8:58 pm
Uncanny valley + they should show the actual actress. She could have the same exact face and all they’re doing is some processing on the face.
Busby on Mon, 25th Aug 2008 10:40 pm
Amazing it looks so real they should show the real actor that they made this from

What is more amazing is that we are witnessing a high quality in videos that you cannot even diferenciate between a computer picture and a real one!!
Frank N. Stein on Fri, 12th Sep 2008 6:58 am
If it’s for real (for real meaning not real at all) then that’s pretty sick technology.

Wow! That is truly amazing stuff, I can’t wait until we see this kind of technology incorporated into our day to day games! I wonder if it will make the game making time any longer though?

I noticed even at the beginning of the video that the face is the animated part, the body is the actor’s real body. But it is still amazing! I can’t wait to see a movie created out of this technology.

Wow! I wonder when someone will create fake bloggers, then we all can take some time off. Heck, why not create some readership. :o)
