Iraqi TV Debate: Is the Earth Flat?
A debate between an Iraqi “Researcher on Astronomy” and a physicist on Iraqi television. This “Islamic Scholar” guy claims that the world is indeed flat and that the sun actually revolves around the earth.
-From the transcript:
Interviewer: Lunar and solar eclipses, sunset and sunrise, and the changing of seasons — how would you explain all these phenomena, if the Earth is not round, as you claim?
Fadhel Al-Sa’d: The sun circles the Earth because it is smaller than the Earth, as is evident in Koranic verses.
Have you ever seen how the sun moves? I have seen the sun moving. The sun makes one move every 24 hours.
What I say is based on Koranic science. He bases his arguments on the kind of science that I reject categorically — the modern science that they teach in schools. This science is a heretic innovation that has no confirmation in the Koran. No verse in the Koran indicates that the Earth is round or that it rotates. Anything that has no indication in the Koran is false.

This derranged idiot is basing his argument around a verse that says “A heaven that wide, as skies and the earth”. And so he made a conclusion that because it says WIDE then it must be flat (as if in the first place 3-Dimensional objects have no width).
I wonder why he didn’t also make the conclusion that the skies are flat.
LOL!
I guess he never heard this verse.
Al Anbyaa’ - 33
“It is He Who created the Night and the Day, and the sun and the moon: all (the celestial bodies) swim along, each in its rounded course.”
The verse uses the arabic word “فلك” Falak which literally means a rounded course.

This guy should be put into a spacecraft and shown the earth from outer space… only that he probably wouldn’t believe it even then and he would claim there is some trick involved and that he isn’t really in outer space!

After seeing the interview, I even know what he would say if he sees the earth from a space shuttle: that the eyes have the nature to see flat things round from a distance (he actually said something similar to that when asked why we see the top of ships first, after he said that the eye works in a way no one understands  ).

A planets that have been discovered are round, so why would this one be flat? Why would they even give this guy air time on TV? What a waste.

Maybe he’ll listen to Al-Idrisi, who said the earth was spherical a THOUSAND years ago!
