~ I DoFollow.

It is my intention to make this blog as comment friendly as possible, and to further this aim of having a blog where the reader notices how much I appreciate their input I have decided to remove the “nofollow” that is automatically added to posts by WordPress. If you are unfamiliar this is a property that is added to a link that tells a search engine not to give any credence to the links within. This is supposedly to combat more spam and I feel that it is cheating the system. There are many different people who have done research saying that these links are still taken into account and the amount of spam since this has been implemented has only increased.

I feel that this means that sites that should be recognized because of their quality are not being indexed and spammers are being rewarded. If you have a comment on my blog - any links will be picked up by searches and recognized accordingly.

Thank you and happy blogging

so google bot is following me ? like big braza?

Its a nice concept, but it also leads to increased ’spam’ with comments like ‘Good Job’ or ‘Nice blog’ that are not actually relevant to the post, but are just there because the poster saw a ‘DoFollow’ badge on the blog and wanted a backlink.

I suppose you could call this a double edged sword, it’d definitely get your more comments, but also increase your moderation work.

Yes, the quality of the posts will be minimum so in a single word = spam. So I think the ideea it’s good but not applicable.

You must get tonnes of spam, but I commend you for making the site friendly to genuine users ;)

:wassat: I’m confused. I thought “no follow” meant a link could not be followed and that “followed” meant a human could click on a link and it would go to that site. Now are you saying it doesn’t matter either way?

Mark: No, What “No Follow” Means is that when you leave a comment on a blog, a no follow tag is automatically attached to the URL of the comment owner’s website so that search bots cannot index ii (follow it). I do follw means that i have removed this “no follow” tag and now all URL’s of the comments authors will be indexed and followed by search engines

DoFollow means that search engines take links back as a vote. NoFollow is the oposite. Basically. :)

  14. hot bikinis on Thu, 29th May 2008 4:31 am

Well, it’s the opposite in the sense that if your page isn’t already indexed by Google, then it now will be when NOFOLLOW isn’t there.

When NOFOLLOW is there, aparently no ‘vote’ is cast, but if the page isn’t in the index, it still allows that page to now be indexed when a bot follows it.

Source the internet and you’ll find the majority of people believe it to be correct.

Well thanks for making your blog dofollow. Most of us do really appreciate your generosity. I personally enjoy reading your blog posts but I do leave a link back to my site when I leave feedback.

Congratulations on going dofollow, Bakkouz. I agree with you that nofollow keeps good commenters from being rewarded. Cheers!

Thanks you for the dofollow removal Bakkouz. If there is anything I can do for you, let me know. Our blogs are dofollow as well. I have Lucia’s Linky Love installed however. :)

We also remove the nofollow, the web should be a flowing place!

  26. slavezero on Sun, 15th Feb 2009 12:40 pm

“following” is a really great way of rewarding your commenters. I will also implement a “Do Follow” reward on my blog. Akismet is doing a great job on my blog so there is no way that spammers can take advantage of it.

I really appreciate you joining the DoFollow movement. I found this link from a DoFollow search engine. I know this is a very old post, but it’s amazing how this post gets picked up because the title says “DoFollow”.

  36. Steve Morris on Thu, 19th Mar 2009 9:23 pm

The big question is does it effect the amount of traffic you get from the search engines. some people have noticed an increase of search engine traffic what about you is it up or down?

  37. Ken Fink on Fri, 20th Mar 2009 12:48 pm

Trust me, I was so irritated searching for the dofollow sites all around the search engines, I finally decided to make sure that any site I make in future would be dofollow!

  38. Watch Weeds Online on Sun, 22nd Mar 2009 4:31 am

Very nice information. Thanks for this. By the way, did you write this article yourself? It looks familiar..

  39. Cazare in Bucuresti on Mon, 23rd Mar 2009 1:44 am

The problem with do-follow is people will spam. If a blog is good enough then the blog owner won’t need to have do-follow because people will comment to put their point of view accross, not to gain a back link.

The BBC is a perfect example of this. There are no links in the forums and blogs, yet they have many users.

However, when a blog is starting and it wants to get a upper hand, their is no harm in attracting people who want do-follow links, because some will become hooked, so even if you change to no-follow, people will still comment.
