In response to the post i wrote a while ago about the piece of Nylon i found in a Hala Chips bag, and after contacting the Jordan Institute For Standards and Metrology, I received this comment by Eng. Nasser Bader the Quality Assurance Manager at Petra Group:

I am Eng Nasser Bader the Quality Assurance Manager at Petra Group (Hala Chips)factory.
First of all I would like to thank you for bringing this issue to my attention through your blog and would like to let you know that we deal with quality and food safety issues very seriously.
However, due to the nature and size of our business (mass producers of chips)such unfortunate things are sometimes unavoidable, but through our very strict procedures and specs. in the QA department we try as much as possible to keep them to a minimum level i.e.our measures are based on # of complaints per million.
Also just to let you know its impossible to reach zero defects in any business in the world not just in Jordan but we always aim to continuously improve our processes and reduce our defects.
If you like to contact me personally here is my email address nasser@petragroup.com.jo and you are also more than welcomed to visit us in our factory in Sahab and I would be happy to share with you what we do to minimize these unfortunate incidents.

Thank you again

Now, I must say, Even though Mr. Bader’s comments comes off as sympathetic and I’m sure it was written in good intent, I fail to see an apology which i think was in order, but still and never the less, its a good move in my openion that such an ineraction by all parties envolved was initiated, as opposed to the old days when such an incident would have been brushed off as if it never happened.

Still, the response is appreciated, and we can only hope that such an incident would not happen again.

“I’m sure it was written in good intent, I fail to see an apology which i think was in order…” I thought this was too much… this comment sounds so arrogant… on the other hand, such an incident should have never been publicly discussed.. I am not sure what u got out of that… he is right, “its impossible to reach defects in any business in the world not just in Jordan”… he is being right and i am afraid, u r being very very wrong!

bakkouz, you are lucky man :). Those incidents only happen in rare cases, as he said 1 in millions. You wish it is a lottery price, I know, but what should you do, each has his own luck (el donia 7thoth) :)
I am glad to see a company correspndance replying to you. I think that he put it professionally, and explained why such defects happens.

But seriously, looking at the Hala chips packets in the supermarkets, one can tell that it has a sense of quality compared to other products in the market. Don’t you think so?

  13. bakkouz on Mon, 2nd Oct 2006 9:10 pm

Well, In my openion, when the case has to do with food products, Even a one in a million chance is enough to deter a person from dealing with a certain brand again, imagine hyptheticaly if it was a cockroach, thats a one in a million chance also, would you still buy a that product?

    ya bakkouz
it happens in water, would you stop drinking water?
it happend in infants food (formula) in europe2
it happens in people look around you BAKKOUZ

Bakkouz, yes I would. You are saying one in a million. It happens everywhere as Ali said. If it is one in a thousand, then it is a different story.

These things cannot be prevented. If you are going to be so picky, then you won’t be able to eat anything!

Last year, and while I was having lunch in one of the famous fast food restaurants in Jordan, I noticed a caterpillar walking in my food! I was outraged, the waiter came, they aplogized, and changed the dish.

Have I ate from that restaurant even again?

Yes sure I did :). It was a rare case. I look at the overall quality of the product.

  16. bakkouz on Tue, 3rd Oct 2006 7:37 am

Okay, Well, I guess its a matter of personal preference, I’m not accusing these guys of negligence, all i’m saying is that I’m not eating from that chips again, just becuase I want to, ya3ni hoo ma dal no3 chips ‘3airo bil 3alam? :P
